Climate change and Estuarine Ecosystems in Vietnam

CLIMEEViet is an extensive project revolving around the ecology of vietnamese estuaries and the impact of global climate changes in these coastal areas.Vietnam is greatly dependent on their
Aquaculture Nha Phu bayfisheries and coastal aquaculture, both as an important source of protein to a large part of the population as well as a crucial national income from exports. The threatening scenarios of rising global temperatures, increasing precipitation in monsoonal areas along with rising sealevels around the world make the future look dim for countries such as Vietnam with its 3260 kilometers of vulnerable shoreline.
The overall objective of the project is to provide data which may be used for assessment of possible future changes of Vietnamese estuarine ecosystems in response to climate changes. This requires collection and analysis of several types of data from the region of interest along with evaluation of previously collected data. This will outline which ecological changes are imminent and where to focus in order to sustain potential negative changes. A model containing the collected data will be developed to evaluate the large scale effects of climate changes.
The CLIMEEViet project holds a series of different fields of research and include highly qualified scientists from Vietnam as well as Denmark (Århus and Copenhagen). The headquarter is located in Nha Trang, Vietnam in the Institute of Oceanography, whereas the danish partners are located at the Århus University, Copenhagen University and the Technical University of Denmark respectively.
